Renamed as the corkscrew vine, corkscrew flower, or snail flower, Cochliasanthus caracalla, previously known as Vigna caracalla, stands out as a rapid-growing, vining perennial reaching impressive lengths of up to 30 feet. Thriving in frost-free zones 9 to 11 as a perennial evergreen, it's often cultivated as an annual in milder climates, zones 2 to 8. During the summer months from July to October, this captivating plant unfurls its fragrant white and lilac/purple blossoms, occasionally adorned with yellow and cream hues. Each spiral flower, measuring about 2 inches in length, forms erect clusters, or racemes, extending up to a foot.

This sprawling vine can grow up to 12-30 feet tall and spread up to 3-6 feet wide. When it comes to germination, sow the seeds shallowly, just a thin layer of soil covering them. Their germination time can vary between 4 to 6 days, influenced by soil temperature and whether the seed coat has been scarified. To enhance germination, gently clip the seed coat with toenail clippers, making sure to cut halfway around the edge, thereby facilitating the process.
